Why is the cross the symbol of Christianity?

The cross is a symbol of Christianity because it is the method of salvation. The Saviour Jesus was brutally killed on a wooden cross. This was the cruelest method of execution in the Roman Empire. However, this is not only a sign of execution, it is also a sign of victory over death. By dying on the cross the Saviour took away the sin of the whole world. The Bible teaches that the Saviour Jesus dies in our place.

He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him.[13]

That cross is now empty. He died but rose to life on the third day after he died.
