What is the purpose of human life?

Some people asked the Saviour Jesus this same question:

One of the teachers of the law came asked, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”[23]

Firstly, Christians believe that God created humans to have a relationship of harmony with God. When we worship God, there is deep joy. As the purpose of a tree to bear fruit, humans are made to love God.

Secondly, those people who have a relationship of harmony with God start seeing the world and other people in the way the Saviour Jesus sees it. The Saviour Jesus sends his Holy Spirit into the hearts of believers and the Holy Spirit changes them. Their attitudes change and, because of that, their behaviour also changes. Again, this is like a tree that bears fruit.

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.[24]

Thirdly, Christians believe that life is a gift from God and this world is a place of immense beauty and great variety. We can see that human societies damage the environment but the Bible teaches that it is our human responsibility to look after the earth and the creatures that live on it.
