Is Jesus a Boddhisattva?
Some people think that the Saviour Jesus is a Bodhisattva because of some similarities in the biographies of Siddharta Gautama and Jesus of the Bible. However, it is mistaken to make this conclusion because of many more important differences. The Bible states that the Saviour Jesus did not live many human lives, but only one. He never committed any sin, before, during or after his earthly life. Similarly, he always had a heart of compassion that was demonstrated in many acts of kindness. He did not need to become enlightened, because he is God’s holy and complete wisdom. He not only showed God’s way of salvation, but he also came to earth to make a way for others to be free from sin, by taking our sin on himself in death. After death, he came back to life and he still lives now, in God’s holy dwelling place, called heaven. The Saviour Jesus is still totally human and totally God. In other words, the Saviour Jesus not only came to this earth to show the way to salvation from sin, but for himself to become the way of salvation. Jesus said:
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
