Why is the Holy Bible special to Christians?

Christians believe that the Holy Bible records the very words of God in written form. These words come from God’s mouth. In other words, God inspired human writers to record these words in historical accounts, genealogies, stories, proverbs, poetry, songs, and so on. The Bible records real humans in real history, where God’s love and power are shown. Because of this the Bible is very special to Christians.

The Christian Bible is made up of 66 books written by around 40 authors and compiled over a period of about 1600 years. There are two parts: the Old Testament (mainly written in Hebrew) and the New Testament (written in Greek). The New Testament historical writings were written soon after the events and within living memory of eyewitnesses and record actual events in the 1st century A.D.
