Do Christians become monks?

There are some traditions within Christianity where men can become monks and women can become nuns. Most of these orders are Roman Catholic. There are different traditions, called “orders”. Some of these are “silent orders”, where the members do not talk unless there is a need. Others are medical and educational orders, and so on.

The New Testament emphasizes that every believer is a “priest” because each individual believer can approach God in the name of the Saviour Jesus, without any human mediator. This means that a Christian does not have to become a monk or nun to follow the Saviour Jesus fully.
